If you lost you original metal carriage lock/fastener, this one is your savior. I, personally, absolutely feel uncomfortable storing my machines without a carriage lock. Who knows who will shift my machines, move them or displace…You never know….some years ago we even had an earthquake in my area – first time in 50 years.
I just don’t want to chance the most important part of my kitting machine – carriage – to break just because it was not fastened well to the bed. It can happen during storage or during transport (if you move you machine, decide to take it with you on a trip or ship it). But these locks are small and get lost during long-term storage. I bought so many machines without them!!!

You know how these locks get lost? You setup your machine and use it for years and then when it is time to pack it up to secure the carriage on the bed, the lock is misplaced…??
This plastic replacement fastener is sturdy and strong to hold the knitting machine carriage in place during storage, transport and simply on the bed when not in use.

These knitting machines are already heavy enough…So, maybe with this plastic lock they can be a little lighter 🙂
